Functional Fabric
Taiwan was a global leader in functional textile manufacturing in the 1980s. PETT2GO aims to leverage this legacy to provide comfortable and safe solutions for families and their pets.
What Is Functional Fabrics?
Functional textiles are fabrics with integrated functions. They can have one or multiple functionalities, for example, temperature and humidity control, fire-resistance, wrinkle-freeness, moisture absorption, or electromagnetic-shielding. They are also known as technical textiles. Nowadays, it’s common to see the high-end outdoor garment sourcing the functional fabrics from Taiwan.
WATERPROOF
Waterproof ratings determine how high a column of water can be suspended above fabric before it starts to leak. A 10,000 mm waterproof outdoor jacket can withstand almost 33 feet of water and is recommended for outdoor activities. Clothing waterproof rated 10,000 mm or higher is suitable for walking, jogging, or hunting in any weather. Higher ratings can handle heavy, prolonged rain.
BREATHABILITY
MVTR up to 10,000 g/m2/24hrs is well-suited for more active or spending more time on outdoor sports. For someone working hard or breaking a sweat, wearing a low MVTR outdoor jacket will feel like putting yourself in a garbage bag, and before long, it feels like swimming in moisture, regardless of how water-resistant it is.
Fabric above 15,000 g/m2/24hrs is best for anyone doing anything actively, like hiking, walking, running so on.
DWR
DWR is a liquid layer applied to technical garments that repels dirt and water. It prevents saturation, keeping you dry and comfortable. Athletes prefer
DWR-treated sportswear because it allows them to shake off water and stay dry.
P.R.T
For a garment to be considered rainwear by U.S. Customs, the fabric must pass the rain test with less than 1.0 gram of water penetrating the fabric when sprayed for 2 minutes using a 2-foot column of water. The highest test level generally used for apparel is 3 feet for 5 minutes.
How The Functional Fabric Be Waterproof & Breathable?
To prevent water from entering, a membrane is used that has holes too small to allow liquid through but is large enough to let water vapor escape. Different types of waterproof fabrics have multiple layers to cater to various needs. For instance, 3-layer (3L) fabrics feature a fine scrim or mesh bonded to the inner surface for added comfort. 2.5-layer (2.5L) fabrics use a printing pattern on the inner surface from contacting skin directly but are lightweight than 3-layer.
